Our Success Story
The diabetic foot clinic was started with the idea of exclusive assessment and management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and diabetic foot ulcer. Basic level of diabetic foot clinic was started with low level laser therapy and assessment tools. As the clinic advanced and started receiving many research grants clinic was upgraded with latest equipment’s for the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and ulcer. Advanced neuropathy assessment tools were also equipped. Thousands of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were treated with low level laser therapy for pain management and more than 500 patients have been treated for diabetic foot ulcer management. More than 100 foots have been saved from undergoing amputation in the diabetic foot clinic. Multidisciplinary approach was adopted in the management of diabetic foot ulcer. The team included doctors from medicine, surgery, endocrinology, radiodiagnosis, dermatology also health care professionals from department of nursing, nutrition and dietetics and orthoptist. Research in developing new instruments or formulas for the assessment and management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and ulcer in collaboration with District health Authority, Udupi. Clinic also had a social innovation in terms of community screening for the foot complications, foot care awareness, training of various level health care professionals. This is the brief success story of Centre for Diabetic Foot Care and Research.
